With a unique background spanning family and internal medicine, public health, preventive health, undersea and hyperbaric medicine, and medical research as a physician-scientist, Dr. David Dayya combines clinical expertise with a thoughtful, evidence-based approach focused on each patient's individual goals and long-term well-being.
Throughout his career, Dr. Dayya has been driven by a simple philosophy: The best healthcare is proactive, personal, and built on trust. He partners closely with patients to prevent disease, optimize health, and navigate complex medical concerns with compassion and clinical excellence.
Dr. Dayya earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, followed by advanced training in family medicine. He later earned both a Master of Public Health and a PhD in biostatistics from the University of Connecticut, providing a strong foundation in population health, clinical research, and data-driven medicine. He is licensed to practice medicine in Connecticut and New York.
In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Dayya has built a distinguished career as an educator and researcher. He serves as an associate clinical professor at Yale School of Medicine, where he teaches and mentors future physicians. He received a national award from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine in recognition of his contributions to the field. His research spans a wide range of medical specialties, contributing to advances in medical knowledge and clinical care.
He also has received an Acknowledgment of Service from the National Health Service Corps, a federal program within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services dedicated to improving access to healthcare in underserved communities.
His commitment to public health also led him to respond following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, when he organized and ran a makeshift triage center across from ground zero. Over four days, he provided medical care to firefighters and other rescue workers, treating eye irritation, breathing difficulties, burns, and other injuries. His service was featured in the November/December 2001 issue of OFP News in “ACOFP Members Powerful, Proactive Response at Ground Zero.”
Dr. Dayya is nationally recognized for his expertise in undersea and hyperbaric medicine. As a certified scuba diving instructor with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) and the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI), as well as a diving medical officer, he has served in leadership roles within the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society, helping advance education and clinical standards in the field.
